Dark and Darker – Where have all the Wizards gone

Where have all the Wizards gone? The discourse on this subreddit often portrays these legendary Wizards, deftly blinking around with Haste and Invisibility, hurling 80-damage fireballs, and seamlessly transitioning to the front lines, only to reappear with Haste and Invisibility, then swiftly igniting to deal 50 damage with a dagger.

So, where are these elusive Wizards? Because I’ve encountered numerous well-equipped Fighters who, despite the claims of being vulnerable against such a potent class, stand strong. Yet, the Wizards themselves are conspicuously absent.

Is it remotely possible that some individuals are merely fabricating these scenarios? Could it be that people are stretching the truth solely to bolster an incorrect argument?

Personally, I appreciate the challenge of playing as a Wizard. I’ve committed myself to this class, amassing a staggering 400 hours of gameplay, and I still struggle. Acquiring a gray spellbook isn’t the miraculous boon it’s often portrayed to be.

The most intriguing individuals discussing this issue are those who recount, “I’ve teamed up with a Wizard,” “My friend is a Wizard,” “Wizards obliterated me with one shot,” and the most amusing of all, “I watched Wizards dominate in High Roller” (on YouTube, observing top 10 players).

What they consistently overlook is that these Wizards are part of a meticulously coordinated three-person team, complete with a comprehensive buff strategy involving a Cleric or Bard. These players mimic Kenobi and Apollo and perceive it as effortless. However, these exceptional individuals are like adept chess masters, excelling in situational gameplay. They are the crème de la crème, the most seasoned players in the game.

Contrastingly, a pickup group rarely achieves such synchronicity when it comes to a Wizard.

Occasionally, you might stumble upon a player like “foxmanslays,” who shares 60 Dark and Darker gold builds for Wizards and engages in goblin runs. Though, it’s worth noting that he doesn’t showcase his moments of defeat.

The statistics gleaned from playtests hold undeniable validity. Apart from the recently introduced classes that lack sufficient data, Wizards consistently rank last in all metrics.
